A dome bake oven is used in the Winkler Bakery. The dome is typical of the ovens that were used in Salem. The bakery's oven is still heated with wood as it was over 200 years ago.

Historic St. Phillips Church is the oldest African-American church still standing in North Carolina and one of the earliest in the entire country. The church is still worshipped in and is part of the Old Salem complex of museum buildings.
